Bye Bye Alaska

Here we're back after 3 days blackout due to 3 days boat cruise in the Alaskan and Canadian waters, final destination Bellingham, north from Seattle. But let me take a step back, and rewind to where we last left it: Juneau.

Before

We woke-up on Tuesday under rain. We thought a few drops would not stop our seek of adventures, but after 500 meters under buckets of rain and wind in the face (we looked like jelly fish), we decided to call it a day. Just stopped by the grocery shop and bought enough to survive for the next 24 hours. Not bad having a bit of a rest, and preparing the return to the city (Seattle).

After

Happily enough, the gods were on our side next morning, as we woke-up with great sunshine!

That allowed us to have a better look at Juneau, including the Alaskan State Museum which is really well thoughts for kids and adults: covers Alaskan history, from native civilization, to the Russian and American bargain, all the way to the gold rush (klondike) and the second world war.

Then time to head to the ferry to catch our 'Love Boat' cruise to Bellingham. I must say that with the bad weather we faced on Tuesday, we started to think the cruise was a bad idea: so we head-off with a bit of apprehension. But we're n it for 9 month, so might as well :-)

Here is a little story that happened on our way to the harbor. All about mother nature and 'wild life' ;-)

'Big' fishes were having a good afternoon,
A nice and decent harbor seal appeared from under water
And the 'hunt' started right under our eyes. Not sure what happened to the big fishes, but the seal was joined by a few relatives...

We took the traditional Alaskan transport to Bellingham. Most of the towns such as Juneau, Ketchikan or Sitka can only be reached by sea or air. The Alaskan state put in place the Alaskan Marine Highway to connect these small communities. Here we go for three days aboard the Kennicott.

The luck was with us all the way: three days of marvelous weather and very light wind. No sick kids or adults, and unbelievable views on Alaskan Glaciers and Canadian cost (Vancouver Island...). We strongly recommend this trip to anyone traveling in this part of the world. Here are a few takes:

Out of Juneau

YES! As we were promised we got to see whales. Tricky to take on a camera, here is a hump back whale. Delphine, this is for you.

3 days with no communication helped us get back to WORK!

Ketchikan

Day one sunset

Day 2 sunset

Day 3 sunset... this is getting boring :-)

'Apero' in the sunset. The one frustration of the trip: impossible to get a beer, since alcohol can only be brought and consumed within the bar, where our kids were not accepted, too young :-(. Tried to convince the officer that the sum of the age of Camille + Chloe + Arthur added-up to 23 which is above 21, but a rule is a rule.

Last day

Bye Bye Alaska. We left the book in the boat to lighten our luggages...
