Hey! We made it through the 12 hours bus ride from mid to
south Chili. Traveling the local way is an interesting experience. We didn’t
realize the bus would actually stop tenth of times on the way, dropping
people in the middle of the night, and picking new ones.
Anyhow an interesting experience (and not the last one, so we better get used to it), and actually we slept much better than in the plane. Arthur
can’t wait to try again, but next time he’d like a double-decker bus (cross
fingers).
A pit stop in Puerto Montt, time to pick-up our rental
car, and off we go to Chiloe Island. The journey starts by crossing the channel between Chili and Chiloe Island. A pause for lunch in the cute little town of Chacao, and south we head to Castro.

After these last few weeks in cities, it feels good to be
back on the road, in the countryside, away from the crowd.
But never forget you are in a danger zone...
Chiloe is splendid and is just a must have when visiting
Chili. We staid at a small hostel in Castro, in a ‘Palafito’ i.e. traditional house
mounted on stilts along the water’s edge. Breakfast with a view on the sea. A kitchen for our Pasta diner. Just perfect.

Castro has a hand craft market, and like everywhere we have been in Chili, really cool playgrounds :-) (so say the kids!).
Curaco de Velez also has a very nice playground, in addition of the colorful houses.
Chiloe is famous for its Churches, of which 16 are Unesco
World Heritage sites. Here are a few we visited.
